First Phase of Jharkhand Assembly Polls and Bye-Elections in 10 States Kick Off

The Jharkhand assembly election began its initial phase early Wednesday, opening polls in 43 of the state’s 81 constituencies across 15 districts. This phase will determine the fate of 683 candidates, with a notable presence of 73 women contenders, reflecting a growing trend of female representation in state politics.

Simultaneously, bye-elections are underway for 31 assembly seats across 10 states, and Kerala’s Wayanad constituency is drawing nationwide interest as it votes to fill a Lok Sabha seat. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is making her electoral debut here, vying against Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Satyan Mokeri and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Navya Haridas. Kerala’s Chelakkara assembly seat in Thrissur is also part of this election cycle, marking an important day for the state’s political landscape.

Assam is holding critical bye-elections across five constituencies: Samaguri, Behali, Bongaigaon, Sidli, and Dholai. Voter turnout in these key seats is expected to signal early trends ahead of Assam’s upcoming state elections.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. with comprehensive security and administrative measures in place to ensure smooth proceedings across all states. The results from these elections will not only shape regional political strategies but may also influence national alliances and policy directions as political parties gauge voter sentiment.

With the stakes high and candidates spanning the political spectrum, today’s elections are set to have far-reaching implications, both regionally and nationally.
