Five Arrested in Tripura for Illegal Border Crossing, Including Two Bangladeshi Nationals
Agartala, Tripura — Security forces in Tripura have detained five individuals, including two Bangladeshi nationals, for illegally crossing the international border into India near the Sabroom area.
Border Security Force (BSF) personnel spotted the group attempting to cross the border at Jalkumba village and apprehended them on the spot, according to local police.
Sabroom Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityananda Sarkar confirmed the arrests, explaining that the group included three Indian citizens and two Bangladeshis. “An FIR has been lodged at Sabroom police station against the individuals for illegally crossing the border,” Sarkar told PTI.
The detained Indian citizens reportedly crossed into Bangladesh to visit a relative but were stranded amid recent unrest in the neighboring country. “With the situation stabilizing somewhat, the three Indian nationals and two Bangladeshi citizens attempted to return to Sabroom,” Sarkar added.
The five individuals are currently being held at Sabroom police station, and authorities are conducting further investigations. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in monitoring cross-border movement in the region, as well as the impact of regional disturbances on civilians caught in border areas.
