Flood situation worsens in Assam, over 57,000 people affected

Guwahati: Artificial floods have affected about 57,000 people across seven districts in Assam due to continuous rains, an official statement said.

According to the data, over 222 villages under 15 revenue circles have been hit by the floods, with 10321.44 hectares of cultivated land submerged.

This natural disaster in Assam claimed the lives of three individuals, including a child.

Apart from people, flooding has harmed around 1,434 cattle and 202 homes.

In flood-affected parts of the state, the Army, paramilitary forces, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services carried out rescue and relief operations. In the districts of Hojai, Lakhimpur and Nagaon, several roads, bridges and irrigation canals were damaged.

It needs to be mentioned that intense rains produced landslides in 12 communities across the Dima Hasao district on Saturday.

Railway tracks, bridges, and road communications have all been flooded and damaged as a result of the landslides.

Northeast Frontier Railway altered train services along the segment as a result of the disaster.

However, two trains were stuck each with roughly 1400 passengers, according to NF Railway.

Soon after, the Railway authorities began evacuation operations with the assistance of the Air Force, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Assam Rifles, and local residents.

Around 1,245 railway passengers trapped at Ditokcherra station have been transported to Badarpur and Silchar, with 119 passengers being airlifted to Silchar by the Indian Air Force, according to the Railway.
