Floods Continue to Wreak Havoc, Over 1,000 Dead in Pakistan

Guwahati: Flood waters are still wreaking havoc in Pakistan as 119 people have perished in Pakistan in the previous 24 hours.

According to data issued by the nation’s National Disaster Management Authority, the number of people killed or injured as a result of floods has surpassed 1,000, and hundreds more have been injured or forced to leave their homes since June.

According to reports,76 people died in Sindh, four in Balochistan, six in Gilgit Baltistan, 31 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Geo News, the floods have affected at least 110 districts in Pakistan, with 72 of those districts reporting a calamity situation.

In total, 3,451.5 kilometres of road have been damaged, 149 bridges have collapsed, and 170 stores have been destroyed in Pakistan as of June 14.

Reportedly, 949,858 homes have been demolished completely or partially. Out of the total, 287,412 dwellings have been completely destroyed, while 662,446 homes have suffered partial damage. Additionally, 719,558 animals have died.

However, 498,442 individuals have been relocated to relief camps, while 51,275 have been rescued.

The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned on August 26 that very high to exceptionally high-level flooding was anticipated in the Kabul River at Nowshera in the KP province as well as in tributaries of the Kabul and Indus rivers until August 28.

According to the authorities, Pakistan has seen its worst monsoon floods in recent memory. According to government estimations, the floods are bigger than the 2010 “super flood,” which affected 20 million people and claimed over 2,000 lives.
