Food Poisoning Scare at NIT Silchar: Over 20 Students Affected After Consuming Momos

Guwahati, 19th November: In a concerning incident, more than 20 students at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar experienced severe health issues, with nine requiring hospitalization after consuming momos from a stall outside the campus.

The affected students were promptly taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, as well as a private hospital, for necessary medical attention. Following the incident, authorities at the institute acted swiftly, notifying the District Health Department. A team of Food Safety officials inspected the momo shop in question and other nearby eateries, collecting samples for laboratory testing.

Prof. KL Baishnab, the registrar of NIT Silchar, assured that the students were recovering well, and necessary steps would be taken to comply with the directions provided by the health officials. The incident has sparked concerns about the overall food quality in the area. Dr. Ibrahim Ali from the District Health Department emphasized the importance of surveillance to monitor the impact of such incidents on public health. Lab reports on the collected samples are awaited.
