Guwahati: With the ongoing cases of smuggling being a major cause of concern in the Northeast, once again a consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 23,40,000 was seized by a team of Assam Rifles in Mizoram on Friday.
The Serchhip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles seized foreign-based cigarettes worth around Rs 23,40,000 from Zokhawthar in Champai district.
According to a statement from Assam Rifles, an operation was carried out based on specific information, during which the foreign cigarettes were seized.
The recovered items were handed over to the Customs Department.
It needs to be mentioned that a legal action has been initiated into the matter and further investigation is underway.
