Former AASU General Secretary Detained Following Alleged Assault in Duliajan
Duliajan, Dibrugarh: Shankarjyoti Baruah, a prominent former General Secretary of the influential All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), found himself in police custody in Duliajan earlier today. The detention follows allegations of his involvement in a physical assault on an employee at a local petrol pump within the Duliajan jurisdiction of Dibrugarh district.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the apprehension of Baruah, stating that initial findings presented sufficient grounds to warrant his detention for questioning. Following his detention, standard protocol was observed as Baruah was taken for a medical examination at a nearby health facility before being transported to the Duliajan Police Station.
Presently, Baruah is undergoing interrogation by police officers who are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident. Authorities have refrained from divulging specific details regarding the nature of the altercation or the injuries reportedly sustained by the petrol pump employee.
A police spokesperson indicated that the investigation is in its preliminary phase. They assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted, and appropriate legal measures will be pursued based on the evidence that emerges from the ongoing investigation.
