Former AGP MLA Aziz Ahmed Khan Quits Party Over Waqf Board Bill Support

Guwahati: In a significant political development, Aziz Ahmed Khan, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the South Karimganj (Sribhumi) constituency and State General Secretary of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has officially resigned from the party.

The departure stems from the AGP’s decision to support the proposed amendment to the Waqf Board Bill, a move that has triggered widespread dissent within certain segments of the party.

Khan made the announcement during a press conference held in Nilambazar, where he disclosed that the directives issued by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board played a pivotal role in his decision to sever ties with the AGP. Accompanying Khan in his resignation were approximately 300 party workers from the South Karimganj region, signaling a substantial loss of support for the AGP in the area.

Clarifying his immediate political intentions, Khan stated that he is currently not affiliating himself with any other political entity. He emphasized that he will engage in consultations with his constituents in South Karimganj (Sribhumi) to gauge their opinions before making any future political commitments. Khan has formally submitted his resignation letter to the AGP party president, marking the official end of his association with the party.
