Former Andaman Chief Secretary sent to police custody in gang rape Case

Guwahati: The former chief secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been remanded to police custody in connection with an alleged gang rape.

Jitendra Narain was accused of being involved in a gang rape case filed by a 21-year-old woman.

He was taken into custody on Thursday after the judge rejected his anticipatory bail application.

Operations are underway to find the other defendants in the case who have not yet been found.

After his arrest, Narain asserted that he was a victim of a plot.

According to accounts, a SIT questioned him at least three times.

The woman was allegedly brought to his home earlier in April on the pretence of offering her a position with the government, but things didn’t work out as planned.

The victim claimed that he (Narain) and other high-ranking officials had sexually assaulted her there.

On October 1, the day Narain was appointed chairman and managing director of the Delhi Financial Corporation, the woman filed a FIR.

He was suspended on October 17 with immediate effect in response to the complaint.

Additionally, the girl claimed Narain had hired “7,800 candidates” in various departments “simply on the basis of recommendations” and without conducting “formal interviews.”
