Former Assam MLA Karendra Basumatary passes away
Guwahati: Karendra Basumatary, a former MLA from the Mazbat constituency, passed away on Monday. He was 71.
Basumatary, according to sources, has been battling a chronic illness for a very long time. Today evening at his home, he passed away.
In addition to Mazbat, Basumatary was chosen to serve a term as an MLA from the Paneri constituency.
Prior to joining the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) in 2020, Basumatary was a key leader in the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). He is regarded as one of the most well-known Bodo leaders in Bodo society.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, paid a visit to the ill Basumatary in July at his home in the Udalguri district.
“Visited former MLA of Majbat Shri Karendra Basumatary, who has been keeping unwell, at his Rowta residence in Udalguri district & enquired about his health. Wished him speedy recovery and assured all possible Govt support in his treatment,” CM Sarma had tweeted.
