Guwahati, 4th September: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam has issued a summons to former Bajali Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhartha Buragohain, calling him to their headquarters in Guwahati.
Previously, Buragohain had been transferred, with his services attached to the Assam Police headquarters in Guwahati. He was reportedly interrogated by police officials on Sunday night and subsequently released.
The arrest of police officials, including Buragohain, is rooted in allegations made by a supari businessman, which have led to an in-depth investigation.
It should be noted that following a complaint regarding extortion demands, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, initiated a trap operation in the first week of August. However, the operation did not succeed as the officers involved became cautious. Nevertheless, the complaint was deemed to be prima facie credible, leading to the registration of a criminal case on August 31.
