Former CM N. Biren Singh, MP Sanajaoba Return to Imphal After Crucial Delhi Talks

Imphal: Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, landed back in Imphal this afternoon, concluding a two-day emergency huddle in Delhi with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The duo’s visit aimed at addressing the pressing issues plaguing the state, particularly the fervent demand for a popular government.

Upon their arrival at Imphal International Airport, N. Biren Singh addressed the media, conveying a crucial message from the Union Home Minister. Shah, he stated, unequivocally assured them that the territorial integrity of Manipur would remain uncompromised. Furthermore, he reaffirmed that the interests of any specific indigenous communities within the state would not be harmed. Biren Singh shared that the Union Home Minister made a heartfelt appeal for peace and stability to prevail in Manipur.

Detailing their Delhi sojourn, Biren Singh revealed that two extensive rounds of discussions were held with Amit Shah over the two days. The Union Minister, he emphasized, is treating the Manipur situation with utmost seriousness. The first meeting on June 9 stretched from approximately 10:30 PM to midnight, followed by another session the next day from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM. These crucial talks covered a spectrum of issues, including the plight of internally displaced people, the ongoing crisis in Manipur, and the contentious Free Movement Regime.

Biren Singh also announced that the process for restoring lasting peace in the state has already commenced. He disclosed that the Home Minister has initiated a series of meetings with various community leaders, a vital step towards finding a resolution to the crisis. Regarding the formation of a popular government, a key demand echoed by the state’s populace, Biren Singh stated, “We have apprised him about the demand for a popular government in the state. The Home Minister responded that they also want to form a government but will observe the situation and take a call after discussion.” He concluded by urging the people of Manipur to eschew all forms of violence and uphold peace, reiterating the Government of India’s firm stance against any measure that could adversely affect the interests of the state’s indigenous communities.
