Guwahati: Former director of the Directorate of Library Services, Assam was arrested by Pan Bazaar Police on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in the massive library scam.
The Gauhati High Court denied Rumi Goswami’s plea to have her pre-arrest bail extended.
It may be mentioned that Rumi Goswami’s husband Pranab Goswami was taken into custody on November 26. Rumi had fled after being arrested.
The two are charged with embezzling roughly Rs 46 lakhs from the Directorate of Library Services.
The director of Library Services filed a FIR, which served as the basis for Pranab Goswami’s earlier detention.
Rumi Goswami sought pre-arrest bail from the Gauhati High Court after anticipating her arrest in relation to Pan Bazaar Police Station case no. 263/2022, which was filed for offences prohibited by Sections 406 and 40 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Further investigation into the case is underway.
