Former Football Captain Bhaichung Bhutia Joins EURO 2024 Panel, Exits Electoral Politics

Northeast Desk, 27th June: In a significant career shift, former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has joined the panel for EURO 2024, marking his departure from electoral politics.

Bhutia, 47, announced his decision on June 25, following his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Sikkim, where he contested from the Barfung seat. “After the 2024 election results, I have had the realization that electoral politics is simply not for me. I am therefore quitting all forms of electoral politics with immediate effect,” Bhutia stated in a released statement. He lost to Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha by 4,346 votes, marking his sixth electoral defeat in the past decade.

Renowned for his exceptional skill and leadership on the football field, Bhutia now shifts his focus to EURO 2024. His presence on the panel is eagerly anticipated by football enthusiasts globally, who expect insightful commentary and analysis from the former captain.

Meanwhile, in other football news, Manchester City continues to dominate headlines with their relentless pursuit of talent. The club, fresh off four consecutive Premier League titles, is reportedly eyeing a player with a £51 million release clause, someone who has left a lasting impact on EURO 2024.

As Bhutia transitions to his new role, his move away from politics underscores a return to his roots in football, a sport where he remains a beloved and respected figure.
