Former India Footballer Subhash Bhowmick Passes Away

Guwahati: Subhas Bhowmick, a former Indian footballer died at a city hospital in the wee hours of Saturday following a prolonged illness.

Bhowmick passed away at the age of 72 and was popularly known as ‘Bhombolda’.

According to reports, he was hospitalized with diabetic problems and kidney ailments and died at around 3.30 am.

Bhowmick was a striker who represented India in various international games and played for East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

He was a successful football coach who worked with East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting, Salgaocar, and Churchill Brothers.

However, his career was also tarnished by controversy as he was arrested and imprisoned in 2005 after being found guilty in a bribery case.
