Former Manipur CM N. Biren Singh Heads to Delhi for Crisis Talks Amid Escalating Unrest

Imphal: Amid a fresh wave of tension and widespread protests in Manipur, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh departed for New Delhi on the afternoon of June 9, responding to an urgent summons from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The visit marks a critical juncture in the state’s escalating unrest, which has seen increasing public anger and deepening instability.

Speaking to reporters at Imphal International Airport before boarding his flight, Singh acknowledged the volatile situation in the state and called on citizens to remain calm and united. Emphasizing the need for thoughtful action, he said, “Manipur is passing through a critical phase. Every citizen must reflect deeply before taking any step. Violence will only worsen the situation. We must stand united and work collectively for the welfare of our indigenous communities.”

Singh also assured that he would press for a decisive intervention during his meeting with central leaders, underscoring the urgency of resolving the crisis. Sources have confirmed that along with Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has also been summoned to Delhi for a high-level consultation with the Home Minister.

The emergency meeting is expected to focus on restoring law and order, addressing widespread public discontent, and drafting a clear political roadmap to stabilize the conflict-hit state. The consultations follow closely on the heels of the arrest of a member of the Arambai Tenggol group—a move that sparked massive unrest in the valley districts and further strained the fragile peace in the region.
