Former Meghalaya Speaker Claims That Congress Is Not In Trouble
Guwahati: Congress is not a ship that is going down.
Former speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Abu Taher Mondal stated this.
Abu Taher Mondal, a three-time former Meghalayan legislator from the Phulbari constituency spoke out in support of the party despite recently leaving the Congress.
Notably, Conrad Sangma the chief minister of Meghalaya and president of the National People’s Party (NPP) had declared him the NPP’s candidate from Phulbari for the state’s 2023 Assembly elections.
“It (Congress) is not a sinking party. I did not jumped ship because the party is sinking,” Mondal said.
He added: “We have seen many in the national scenario, many parties which are wiped out then they bounce back.”
Mondal expressed optimism and confidence that the NPP would do admirably in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills region winning more seats.
Meghalaya’s upcoming assembly elections are expected to take place in the first half of next year.
