Former Nagaland Governor PB Acharya No More
Northeast Desk, 10th November: PB Acharya, former Governor of Nagaland, passed away on November 10.
Acharya served as the Governor of Nagaland from July 2014 to July 2019, and during his illustrious career, he also held the position of Governor in Tripura and Assam. He had additional responsibilities as the Governor of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
Prior to his gubernatorial roles, PB Acharya was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Born in Udupi district, Karnataka, Acharya played a significant role in BJP as the national secretary during the period when Narendra Modi served as the national general secretary of the party (1995-2001).
He was the second person from coastal Karnataka and the first from the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community to be appointed to the Governor’s post.
Besides his political career, Acharya was actively involved in education and planning initiatives, including his contribution to the University of Delhi’s Gyanodaya Express College on wheels to North East India.
