Former Nagaland Minister Kejong Chang Passes Away
Kohima: Former Nagaland Minister Kejong Chang has passed away today in Dimapur after a prolonged illness. He was 104 years old.
Chang, a seasoned government employee, entered politics in 1998 when he was elected unopposed from the 54th Tuensang Sadar-II Assembly Constituency. He served as an MLA in the 9th, 11th, 12th, and 13th Nagaland Legislative Assemblies.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed deep sorrow at Chang’s demise, acknowledging his lifelong dedication to uplifting marginalized communities. Rio described Chang as a father figure and guardian for the Chang community and the Naga people, emphasizing his kindness and compassion.
The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) also mourned his loss, with NDPP President Changwang Konyak praising Chang’s significant contributions to the state. Despite his advanced age, Chang continued his service to the NDPP as Treasurer of the 54th Tuensang Sadar-II NDPP Assembly constituency until his passing. Konyak noted that the party had lost a father figure and a leader whose wisdom and experience would be greatly missed.
