Former PM Shinzo Abe’s Body Arrives in Tokyo, Funeral to be Held on July 12

Guwahati: The body of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was killed on Friday, reached at his home city, Tokyo on Saturday.

According to sources, Shinzo’s wife, Akie Abe travelled to Tokyo from Nara with the body of the former Japanese prime minister.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also arrived up at the residence of the assassinated former prime minister.

Local media has reported that a night vigil will be held on Monday and his funeral will be held on July 12 Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the police in Japan have stated that a 90-person task team will be assembled to look into Abe’s murder. The security measures that were in place while Abe was giving his address on Friday morning close to the Yamatosaidaiji Station in Nara will be reviewed, according to the police. Additionally, officials acknowledged that they were only made aware of the late leader’s travel to Nara the previous evening.

The former PM was attacked from behind by a man while giving a stump speech on a Nara Street. Police has seized the man who attacked Abe at around 11.30 am, The Japan Times reported.

According to initial reports from Japanese public broadcaster, NHK, Shinzo Abe may have been shot in the chest. Abe was taken to a hospital where it was said he was experiencing a “cardiopulmonary arrest.” He passed away while seeking medical care at a hospital in the Nara region’s Kashihara city.

Meanwhile, world leaders have sent tributes to Abe’s family expressing their condolences as well as their outrage and sadness over his murder.
