Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92
Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and a renowned economist, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He was admitted to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after his health deteriorated. Despite the efforts of medical teams, Dr. Singh breathed his last around 8 p.m., leaving the nation mourning the loss of one of its most revered leaders.
Widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, Dr. Singh gained prominence as the Finance Minister in PV Narasimha Rao’s government from 1991 to 1996. His landmark reforms opened the Indian economy to global markets, ushering in an era of rapid economic growth and modernization.
As Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Dr. Singh oversaw historic milestones, including the Indo-US nuclear deal and a period of unprecedented economic development. Known for his humility, integrity, and intellectual acumen, he garnered respect across political lines and was seen as a symbol of governance rooted in wisdom and ethics.
Dr. Singh is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
