Former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora Rejoins Congress

Guwahati, September 8: Ripun Bora, the former Rajya Sabha MP from Assam who recently stepped down as the state president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), rejoined the Indian National Congress. The reunion was formalized at an Extended Executive Committee meeting in Charaideo, where Jitendra Singh, AICC General Secretary for Assam, welcomed Bora back into the party.

In a statement to the media, Bora criticized the current BJP government, expressing dissatisfaction with its administration and pledging to work with Congress to combat alleged corruption and communalism. He emphasized the need to strengthen the Congress party and address the grievances of the Assamese people.

Several senior TMC leaders also joined Congress alongside Bora. The event was attended by state Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, and other prominent leaders.

Bora had previously left Congress in April 2022 to join TMC, citing admiration for TMC leader Mamata Banerjee and a desire to challenge the BJP. However, he resigned from TMC on September 1, criticizing it as a “regional party” of West Bengal that was not gaining traction in Assam.
