Former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora Resigns from Trinamool Congress
Guwahati, 1st September: Former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora has resigned from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), citing unresolved issues and challenges within the party. Bora submitted his resignation letter to the TMC leadership, expressing his reasons for stepping down.
In his letter, Bora highlighted his commitment to the party since joining in April 2022, stating, “My team and I have worked tirelessly for the party’s growth in Assam, aiming to establish it as a viable alternative to the BJP. My initial decision to join TMC was driven by admiration for the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a commitment to our shared mission.”
Bora acknowledged the potential of the Assam TMC but criticized several recurring issues that he believes have hindered the party’s progress. He mentioned the perception of TMC as a regional party of West Bengal and suggested several measures to address this, including appointing an Assamese leader at the national level and promoting cultural heritage sites in Assam.
Despite numerous attempts over the past year and a half to address these concerns with TMC leaders, Bora noted that he had been unable to secure an appointment with either the party chief or Chief Minister Banerjee.
His resignation marks a significant development in the political landscape of Assam and the TMC’s national strategy.
