Former Sikkim Police Officer Apprehended in Wildlife Smuggling Bust

Northeast Desk, 18th January: A retired police officer from Sikkim was arrested by forest officials in Siliguri of West Bengal due to his suspected involvement in a large-scale wildlife smuggling operation.

The identity of the accused is being kept confidential during the ongoing investigation. The arrest took place after forest officials acted on a tip about suspicious activities in the area.

Upon receiving the information, the police intercepted the retired officer, who was caught smuggling Flying Squirrel skins and Musk Deer body parts.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the confiscated items, including Flying Squirrel skins and Musk Deer body parts, have a value exceeding 3 crores.

The police are currently interrogating the individual to gather more details about the extent of the smuggling network and any potential accomplices.
