Former Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Arunoday Saha Honoured with Padma Shri
Agartala: Arunoday Saha, former vice-chancellor of Tripura University, has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award for his outstanding contributions to education and literature.
The recognition, announced on January 25, marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career, spanning decades in academia and writing.
Expressing his elation, Prof. Saha highlighted how literature has always been an intrinsic part of his life despite his academic background in economics. “I am truly happy to see my name among this year’s Padma Shri awardees. While I earned a PhD in Economics from a state university in the US, literature remains in my blood. This recognition of my literary works is deeply fulfilling, and I am grateful to those who deemed me worthy of this honour,” Saha told mediapersons.
Chief Minister Manik Saha extended his heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Saha, praising his remarkable contributions. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “This well-deserved recognition honours his remarkable contributions to the fields of education and literature. As a renowned academic and writer, his work has inspired countless individuals.”
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath also congratulated Saha and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognizing Tripura’s contributions.
Born in 1948 in Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district, Prof. Saha has had an extraordinary journey, rising from a school teacher to serving as the vice-chancellor of a central university.
Over the years, he has authored 10 books, showcasing his passion for literature and education. In 2023, he was also awarded the Tripura Vibhushan, the state’s highest civilian honour, for his exceptional contributions to education.
This Padma Shri award serves as a testament to Prof. Saha’s dedication to academia and literature, bringing pride to Tripura and inspiring generations to come.
