Four conservancy workers choked to death while cleaning septic tank in Pune
Guwahati: Four conservancy workers have been choked to dead while cleaning a septic tank inside a residential complex in Kadamvak Vasti of Loni Kalbhor, located 14 km from Pune on Wednesday.
The incident took place at 11.30 am inside the Malhar Appa residential building on Pathare vasti road in Kadamvak Vasti of Loni Kalbhor.
The deceased have been identified as Sikandar Popat Kasabe, Padmakar Maruti Waghmare, Krishna Datta Jadhav and Roopesh Kamble.
According to reports, they died due to suffocation while they were cleaning a septic tank.
According to the police, two of them went into the tank to clean it, and the other two came in later to assist them with their task.
According to Rajendra Mokashi, the incharge of the Loni Kalbhor police station, a case of accidental death has been filed at the station, and the post mortem report is pending.
“Four conservancy workers died in the tank that they were cleaning due to asphyxia. One of them is a former Kadamvak Wasti Grampanchayat health worker. We have filed an accidental death case for the time being, but once the post mortem report is completed, it will be a criminal case. “The bodies have been sent for autopsy and will be handed over to family or next of kin,” he stated.
Following the incident, a team of Pune Metropolitan and Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) fire brigade officers rushed to the spot and brought out the dead.
It needs to be noted that when the first two fell and died, the septic tank was between 10 and 12 feet deep and smelled terrible.
According to fire department personnel, the other two who followed them met the same fate.
