Four KCP-PWG Militants Arrested in Manipur’s Bishnupur District for Extortion

Northeast Desk, 27th August: In a decisive move against insurgency-related crimes, Manipur police apprehended four cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) in the Nambol area of Bishnupur District. The arrested individuals were identified as Khundrakpam Rojit Singh (28), Thokchom Sornu Singh (23), Khoirakpam Abhinash Singh (21), and Khundrakpam Victoria Devi (26). The group had been involved in extortion activities in the Nambol area.

During the operation, authorities recovered a pistol with a live round, four mobile phones, a vehicle, and Rs. 900 in cash from the possession of the suspects. The arrests form part of a broader crackdown by security forces against insurgency and extortion in the region.

In conjunction with these arrests, security forces launched extensive searches and area domination exercises across Manipur’s hill and valley districts. To ensure the safe transportation of essential goods, a total of 120 vehicles along NH-37 and 51 vehicles along NH-2 were escorted under heightened security measures. Additionally, 104 checkpoints were set up across various districts, resulting in the detention of 170 individuals for violations.

These coordinated efforts highlight the ongoing commitment of Manipur’s law enforcement agencies to curb insurgent activities and maintain law and order in the state.
