Fourteen Candidates Vie for Two Lok Sabha Seats in Arunachal Pradesh

Northeast Desk, 29th March: As the electoral fervor intensifies in Arunachal Pradesh, fourteen candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for the two Lok Sabha seats, slated for polling on April 19, according to an official announcement on Friday.

In the Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency, eight contenders will vie for victory, including Union Earth Sciences minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Nabam Tuki.

Meanwhile, in the Arunachal East parliamentary constituency, six candidates remain in the fray after the independent candidacy of Techi Rana was deemed invalid during scrutiny on Thursday.

Among the contestants, a notable presence of eight independent candidates is observed, indicating a diverse field in the Lok Sabha polls across both constituencies.

In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, the northeastern state will witness assembly elections on the same day, with a total of 169 candidates contesting for the 60 assembly seats, as per the official statement.

Of these, the BJP leads with 59 valid nominations, followed by 23 from the Congress, 16 from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and 23 from the National People’s Party (NPP).

Independent candidates also make a significant showing in the assembly elections, with 29 individuals throwing their hats into the political arena, signaling a keenly contested electoral battle across the state.
