Guwahati, 22nd August:A series of fox attacks in the Phulung region of North Guwahati has left eight residents seriously injured, sparking widespread fear and prompting the community to take up arms in self-defense.

The victims, identified as Parmananda Boro, Bharati Boro, Ranjan Boro, Ram Singh Aufe, and four others, were swiftly transported to AIIMS and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Medical teams are closely monitoring their recovery, with concerns growing about the severity of their injuries.

The sudden wave of fox attacks has deeply unsettled the local population, disrupting daily life and creating a climate of fear. In response, the residents have formed vigilance groups, patrolling the area with bamboo sticks alongside police and forest department personnel in an effort to protect themselves from further incidents.

Despite these efforts, the threat remains unabated. Residents have resorted to bursting firecrackers in a bid to scare off the wild animals, but the foxes continue to pose a danger. The community’s frustration is further compounded by what they perceive as a delayed response from the forest department, which they believe has exacerbated the situation.
