Fraudster held for duping aspirants of Rs 1.20 lakh on pretext of jobs

Guwahati: Guwahati police apprehended a fraudster on Saturday for defrauding people under the guise of giving jobs at OIL (Oil India Limited) in Duliajan.

According to reports, Vivek Pathak defrauded an unemployed young man in Ruminigaon, who was primarily an engineer and took Rs 1.20 lakh from him.

The fraudster assured him to secure a civil engineering job at the Duliajan-based OIL and then vanished with the money.

Pathak was caught red-handed by the youth’s family on Saturday while attempting to deceive a girl at a job interview in Guwahati’s Six Mile district.

The family yelled for aid and battled him. Locals raced to the scene after hearing them. They apprehended the fraudster and thrashed him mercilessly.

Dispur police later apprehended him and put him into custody.

It is learned that along with Vivek Pathak, a notorious gang has been extorting money from young people in Guwahati under the guise of getting them jobs in the public sector.
