Fresh Incident of Sexual Assault on Minors in Chirang Shocks Assam
Guwahati, August 24 — Barely a week after the Dhing case, a new case of sexual assault on two minors has surfaced in Chirang, intensifying concerns about the safety of women and children in Assam. The incident occurred in Mozabari under Sidli police station, where Jahiruddin, a married man, is accused of luring and assaulting two minors from the Koch Rajbongshi community and one from a religious minority community.
According to reports, Jahiruddin allegedly enticed the minors into his house on August 20, with false promises of job opportunities. The victims were subsequently sexually assaulted. The horrific crime came to light when the victims’ guardians lodged a formal complaint at Sidli police station.
Following the complaint, Sidli police launched an intensive operation to apprehend Jahiruddin, who is currently on the run. Senior police officials are actively involved in the investigation, conducting searches at the suspect’s residence and surrounding areas to ensure his capture.
A local resident claimed that Jahiruddin had promised the minors job opportunities in Hyderabad, intending to traffic them. The situation escalated when Jahiruddin attempted to take them to the house of an associate. Fortunately, locals intervened, rescuing the girls and returning them to their families. The community has expressed gratitude to the police for their swift action but has also called for stricter measures to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals.
The incident has sparked outrage, with demands for immediate action against human trafficking and stronger protections for women and children. Locals are urging Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take decisive steps to empower women and prevent such crimes in the future. The community insists that the authorities confront these rising crimes and ensure justice for the victims.
