Fresh Landslides Shut Down NH 10 in Sikkim, Escalating Crisis in Naga Village

Northeast Desk, 27th July: Fresh landslides have severely impacted NH 10, resulting in the closure of the Jorethang to Melli road near Kitam Fatak. Authorities have confirmed that the road will remain closed for an extended period as crews work diligently to clear the debris and ensure the road’s safety.

In light of the road closure, travellers are advised to use alternative routes and stay informed through official announcements.

Meanwhile, the situation in Naga Village, North Sikkim, has become increasingly dire due to a series of natural disasters. The village is grappling with the devastating effects of a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, landslides, and relentless heavy rainfall, significantly heightening the risk to both life and property.

The District Administration has issued an urgent warning to residents, urging them to exercise extreme caution and consider relocating to safer areas until the monsoon season concludes or necessary repairs are completed. The village’s infrastructure has been heavily damaged, with many homes affected and roads sinking, posing severe challenges for residents who depend on Naga for their livelihood.

While some residents with alternative accommodations have already moved out, others are struggling to find safe relocation options. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising affected residents to follow safety guidelines and use alternative routes when travelling to North Sikkim.

Efforts are ongoing to manage the crisis, and the community is urged to stay vigilant and prioritize safety.
