Fresh Violence Reported in Manipur’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, 1 Killed
National Desk, 12 June: New violence broke out in Manipur’s Khamenlok district which is part of the Kangpokpi district after the state had restored quiet for over a day. According to reports, villagers were attacked by criminals on June 12. Up to four persons were reportedly injured and as a result they were sent to Raj Medicity in the Imphal East district.
On June 12, when the governor of Manipur was visiting Lamka, miscreants stormed Loklakphai Village in Churachandpur killing a 22-year-old boy at around 2:30 pm. This was yet another violent incident.
According to reports, two unnamed adolescents who were travelling from Ichum Kom Keirap to the Waroiching/Leimaram area on June 11, 2023, at 12:30 pm were detained by residents of that area.
However, with the help of villagers of both Ichum Kom and Leimaram Waroiching areas, Civil societies and media, the youths have been finally handed over to the police for further verification.
In a press release, Heisnam Balram Singh, SP of Bisnupur district wrote, “On behalf of Bishnupur District Police I express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to one and all including the villagers of [chum Kom Keirap, Waroiching, Leimaram, civil societies, media fraternity, CAPF/Army personnel who have to hand over to District Police for necessary verification.”
