Gandhi Lambasts Sarma, Alleges ‘King-like’ Rule and Corporate Handover of Assam’s Resources

Chaygaon, Assam: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of behaving like a “king” and systematically transferring the state’s precious land and resources to corporate behemoths like Adani and Ambani. The sharp criticism came during a spirited address to party workers in Chaygaon, where Gandhi reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to protecting the rights of the common people.

Addressing a gathering, Gandhi asserted that the resilient people of Assam embody truth and integrity, yet they are being deliberately misled and fractured by those in power. He drew a parallel between the prevailing situation in Assam and wider national issues, highlighting what he termed as rampant resource exploitation, the rise of authoritarian leadership, and divisive communal polarisation gripping the country.

Gandhi emphatically stated the Congress party’s unwavering resolve to defend democratic values and vowed to tirelessly champion justice, equality, and the fundamental rights of every citizen. His visit marks a significant step in the Congress’s renewed vigour to bolster its presence at the grassroots level, particularly with an eye on the crucial 2026 Assam Assembly elections. The party is clearly looking to energise its cadre and connect with voters on issues of governance and public welfare, setting the stage for a compelling political contest in the state.
