Gas Leak Sparks Panic Near Oil India Rig in Assam’s Tinsukia District

Tinsukia: A significant gas leak incident disrupted daily life in the Makum region of Tinsukia, Assam, on March 9th, as volatile fumes escaped from Oil India Limited’s 309 rig.

The incident, occurring proximate to Nagajan-Tamulikhat village, triggered widespread alarm among the local populace.

The uncontrolled release of gas, while fortunately resulting in no immediate fatalities, engendered a climate of fear and disarray within the community. Several residents reported near misses as they scrambled to distance themselves from the emanating gas cloud.

Accusations of operational negligence have surfaced, with local inhabitants attributing the leak to alleged oversights on the part of Oil India Limited. The delayed response in addressing the hazardous situation has further fueled public discontent.

Oil India Limited’s divisional personnel eventually arrived at the scene, and after a protracted period of intensive work, successfully managed to stem the gas leak, averting what could have escalated into a catastrophic event. The containment effort required sustained focus to mitigate the immediate danger and prevent further gas dispersion.
