Gauhati HC Grants Default Bail to 5 Accused in Massive Online Scam

Guwahati: In a major development, the Gauhati High Court has granted default bail to five individuals arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a massive online trading scam. The accused were released after the CBI failed to file a charge sheet within the stipulated 90-day period.

The five individuals granted bail include Sapnanil Das, Jiten Deka (granted interim bail on medical grounds), Abhijit Chanda, Bishal Phukan, and Tarkik Bora. However, the court rejected the bail pleas of Sanjib Deka, Chandan Nath, and Subhanjyoti Kurmi, who are also implicated in the scam.

The case, which involves alleged fraudulent online trading activities worth a staggering Rs 2,200 crore, has sent shockwaves across the region. Prominent figures, including Assamese actress and influencer Sumi Borah and her husband Tarkik Bora, have been arrested in connection with the scam.

The CBI’s investigation into the matter is ongoing, and further developments are anticipated in the coming weeks.
