Gauhati HC Hears Writ Petition on Internet Suspension in Direct Recruitment Exam

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court heard a writ case challenging the decision to cut off internet access during the direct recruitment exam that was administered in 25 districts of Assam on Thursday.

The court held a lengthy hearing on the submitted petition. However, it was unable to be finished.

The hearing has been postponed until August 26 by the court.

Earlier on August 24, Raju Prakash Sarma submitted a formal petition to the Gauhati High Court objecting to the internet being suspended during the direct recruitment exam.

It was filed in response to the state government’s plan to turn off the internet on August 21 for four hours while 25 districts held Grade IV direct recruitment exams.

There have been allegations of businesses losing money as a result of the ban, as well as commuters and locals experiencing inconvenience.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered that internet use be suspended during the direct recruitment exams to prevent question paper leaking.

Grade IV examination was conducted under strict surveillance at numerous locations throughout the state.
