Gauhati High Court Suspends Sonitpur Judge Over Alleged Bribery Involvement

Guwahati, 3rd September: The Gauhati High Court has ordered the immediate suspension of Ranju Medhi, an additional district and sessions judge in Sonitpur, for alleged involvement in a bribery case. The decision, issued on September 2, mandates that Medhi remain suspended while an official departmental investigation is conducted.

Medhi, who is currently serving as a special judge in the POCSO court in Sonitpur, has been instructed to remain stationed at the headquarters in Sonitpur, Tezpur during the suspension period. The High Court’s order further stipulates that Medhi is prohibited from leaving the station without prior permission from the court.

To ensure continuity of judicial proceedings, the Sonitpur District & Sessions Judge has been appointed to take over the responsibilities of the Additional District & Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Tezpur during Medhi’s suspension.

The High Court emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against Medhi, stating, “Upon suspension, Headquarter of Shri Medhi shall be at Tezpur, Sonitpur. He shall not leave the station without prior permission of the Hon’ble Gauhati High Court. During the period of suspension, the District & Sessions Judge, Sonitpur at Tezpur will be in-charge of the court and office of the Additional District & Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Tezpur.”

This development marks a significant step in the judiciary’s effort to uphold the integrity of the legal system amidst allegations of corruption.
