Gaurav Gogoi Clears Air on Pakistan Visit and Wife’s NGO Link
New Delhi: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has finally broken his silence, issuing a comprehensive clarification regarding his 2013 visit to Pakistan and his wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi’s past association with an international NGO. The statement aims to quell a flurry of political speculation and what he terms as “misinformation” that has been circulating.
In a detailed release, Gogoi elaborated on his wife’s professional engagement, stating, “My wife worked with an international non-governmental organization (NGO) and was stationed in Pakistan for one year in 2011 as part of her official assignment. She continued working with the NGO until 2015.” This explanation directly addresses queries about her time spent in the neighbouring country.
Addressing the brouhaha surrounding his own journey, Gogoi affirmed, “I visited Pakistan once in 2013, and the visit was carried out in full compliance with the rules and regulations of the Government of India.” This assertion underscores the adherence to official protocols during his trip.
This marks the first instance the prominent Congress leader has publicly addressed these specific matters. His forthright clarification comes amidst a resurgence of political discussions and various social media narratives attempting to cast aspersions on his and his family’s connections, which he has unequivocally labelled as “baseless.”
Gaurav Gogoi further stressed the critical need for fact-based dialogues in the political arena, urging his political adversaries to engage with substantive issues rather than resorting to what he views as personal attacks. “I’ve always served my country with integrity. My personal and professional life has been transparent and in line with national interest,” Gogoi asserted, reinforcing his commitment to public service.
