Gaurav Gogoi Condemns “Political Goondaism” After Attack on Assam Congress Leaders in Dhing

Guwahati: Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has sharply condemned the assault on party leaders MP Pradyut Bordoloi and MLA Sibamoni Bora, describing the incident as an example of “political goondaism” aimed at silencing opposition voices during the panchayat elections.

The attack took place on April 27 in Dhing, Nagaon district, when masked assailants armed with iron rods targeted a convoy of five vehicles carrying Congress leaders returning from a campaign event. Several vehicles were vandalized, and injuries were reported among the leaders.

“I strongly condemn the planned and brutal attack on MP Pradyut Bordoloi, MLA Sibamoni Bora, and other Congress leaders in Dhing,” Gogoi posted on social media, expressing concern for their safety.

Highlighting a pattern of intimidation, Gogoi noted that Congress candidates and workers have been subjected to systematic threats and violence throughout the panchayat election process. He pointed to a recent incident involving MP Rakibul Hussain as further evidence.

Gogoi accused the Assam government of fostering an environment that emboldens such attacks, warning that democracy cannot be suppressed through violence.

“The people of Assam are watching. We will not bow down to political goondaism. We will respond through ballots, through courage, and through democracy,” he declared.
