Gaurav Gogoi Slams Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for Politicizing Pahalgam Terror Attack
Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of politicizing the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In a sharply worded statement, Gogoi condemned Sarma for what he termed as insensitive and divisive commentary during a time of national mourning.
“It is unfortunate that at a time when the entire nation stands united, demanding a firm response against Pakistan for sponsoring terror attacks on Indian citizens, BJP leaders in various states, including Assam, are choosing to indulge in petty politics,” Gogoi said, criticising the CM’s remarks made in the wake of the attack.
The Congress leader further alleged that Sarma’s comments undermined the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in the attack. “By making such remarks, the Assam CM is insulting those who laid down their lives in Pahalgam. He is demeaning and diluting the gravity of the tragedy,” he stated.
Calling for restraint and dignity, Gogoi urged CM Sarma to avoid politicizing national tragedies and instead focus on governance. “The Chief Minister should concentrate on addressing the pressing issues that directly impact the people of Assam rather than exploiting national security concerns for electoral gains,” Gogoi added.
The war of words adds fuel to the political temperature in Assam, already heightened by the approaching panchayat elections.
