Gaurav Gogoi Slams BJP Over Mistreatment of Female MPs and Amit Shah’s Remarks on Constitution
Assam: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly criticized the BJP for its failure to address the mistreatment of female MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in the Lok Sabha.
Speaking out against the lack of action, Gogoi highlighted televised footage showing BJP male MPs intimidating Congress women, yet no FIRs have been filed or any accountability taken.
Gogoi accused the BJP of using these incidents to deflect attention from the controversial remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which he described as “disparaging and insulting” to the Indian Constitution and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Constitution’s principal architect.
He also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing out his silence in the face of Shah’s comments. Gogoi noted that while Modi often engages in symbolic gestures, such as bowing to the Constitution, he remains quiet when his own minister insults Dr. Ambedkar. Gogoi reminded the public that the RSS, the ideological parent of the BJP, had historically rejected the Indian Constitution, and that the party’s actions reflect this sentiment.
Furthermore, Gogoi recalled the BJP’s earlier attempts to amend the Constitution should they secure more than 400 seats, and expressed concern that the party’s recent electoral victories were revealing their true intentions.
Gogoi emphasized that Amit Shah’s refusal to apologize for his remarks underscores a continuing disregard for the Constitution and for the millions who follow Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals. He accused the BJP of leveraging its political strength to advance its own agenda, undermining the core principles on which India was founded.
