Gaurav Gogoi Targets Assam CM, Questions BJP’s Track Record in Silchar

Silchar: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi took a sharp dig at the ruling BJP and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his visit to Silchar, accusing the government of failing the people of Barak Valley.

Gogoi pointed out that a proposal made by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for Silchar’s development remains unfulfilled under CM Sarma’s leadership. “Silchar can be the future of Singapore if we try,” he said, highlighting the town’s untapped potential.

Lashing out at the BJP’s political narrative, Gogoi remarked, “The BJP government politicizes in the name of our mother. But why has the BJP government not been able to stop the cattle smuggling in Silchar?”

In a pointed comment on Himanta Biswa Sarma’s political journey, Gogoi said, “I do not want to follow the Chief Minister’s political journey — first AASU, then Congress, and now BJP. I am not politically as flexible as him. Wherever there is power, he has his feet there.”

The Congress leader’s remarks come as part of his visit to the flood-hit areas of Barak Valley, where he has been interacting with residents and reviewing the local situation.
