Gen Bipin Rawat’s body to reach Delhi today, last rites on Friday

Guwahati: The cremation of Chief Defence Staff and his wife will be done on Friday and the bodies of Gen Rawat and his wife along with the others killed in the incident will be flown to New Delhi via Coimbatore on Thursday.

According to reports, the Chief of Defence Staff and his wife would be cremated in Delhi Cantonment on Friday (December 10). By Thursday evening, their mortal remains are expected to arrive in the National Capital via military plane.

It was further reported that on Friday, the bodies of Gen Rawat and his wife will be brought to his home, where visitors will be able to pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a funeral procession from Kamraj Marg to the Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment.

The helicopter crash was also reported to the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). During the meeting, it was determined that the government would declare national mourning on Thursday as a symbol of respect.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid a visit to General Bipin Rawat’s family to convey his condolences. Singh spoke to his daughter, according to the news agency IANS. On Thursday, he will give a statement in Parliament on the subject.

It may be mentioned that the Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the tragedy, according to the Indian Air Force. The report will be ready in a month. Following his death in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Uttarakhand (Rawat’s home state) has declared a three-day state of mourning.
