General Bipin Rawat Receives Special Commemoration on First Death Anniversary

Guwahati: A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Dagger War Memorial to mark the first anniversary of General Bipin Rawat’s passing as India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on December 8.

SM, VSM, ADC, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM and SM In 2012, General Rawat served as the division’s commander and as its former general officer commanding. On December 8, 2021, he, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 other people perished in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.

Along with other military members, the Officiating General Officer Commanding Brig. Sanjeev Kumar, Dagger Division, lay a wreath at the Dagger War Memorial in honour of the former Chief of Defence Staff while recalling his distinguished military career.

A memorial service was also planned by the residents of Baramulla at Dak Bungalow. A sizable crowd of people gathered to honour and remember their favourite general.

The special bond General Rawat had with the people of Kashmir, particularly with the residents of Baramulla was emphasised during a speech on the occasion by Mr. Tausif Raina, President of the Municipal Corporation of Baramulla.

Various locals in the area were in contact with General Rawat on a regular basis. He added that the nation has been irreparably damaged by General Rawat’s passing.
