General Secretary of TMC Abhishek Banerjee on a 2-day visit to Meghalaya

Guwahati: The National general secretary of the Trinamool Congress Abhishek Banerjee will begin a two-day trip to Meghalaya on November 17.

According to a TMC official, Banerjee will open a party office in Garo Hills on November 17.

“On November 18, he will interact with church elders at Sacred Heart Shrine in Tura and hold a public meeting at new Tura playground. He will also interact with media personnel there. Banerjee is scheduled to hold an organisational meeting with the leaders of the state,” a TMC official said as reported by PTI.

The TMC took over as the dominant opposition force in the Meghalaya Assembly after 12 of the state’s 17 Congress MLAs defected to the party lead by Mamata Banerjee in November of  last year.

The TMC had been attempting to broaden its support base in Goa, Haryana, Tripura and Meghalaya after its resounding victory in the assembly elections in West Bengal in 2021.

The party previously ran candidates in the Goa assembly elections and the Tripura municipal elections.
