General Vijay Kumar Singh Sworn in as 25th Governor of Mizoram

Aizawl: General Vijay Kumar Singh, the former Chief of Army Staff, was officially sworn in as the 25th Governor of Mizoram today in a ceremony held at the circular lawn of Raj Bhavan. Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Vijay Bishnoi, administered the oath of office to General Singh, marking a significant milestone in his post-military career.

The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, his cabinet colleagues, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, and other MPs and officials. Notable former Chief Ministers of Mizoram, Zoramthanga and Lal Thanhawla, were also present to witness the swearing-in ceremony.

Born on May 10, 1951, General VK Singh served as the 24th Chief of Army Staff from 2010 to 2012. Following his retirement from the army, he entered politics in 2014 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was subsequently elected as the Member of Parliament for Ghaziabad in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term, Singh held significant roles, including Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation. In Modi’s second term, he took on the portfolios of Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.

Before arriving in Aizawl for his swearing-in, General Singh visited the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, seeking blessings from Maa Kamakhya, as part of his spiritual journey ahead of assuming his new gubernatorial role.
