Girls Triumph Over Boys Despite Dip in Overall Pass Rates in Assam’s Class 12 Board Exams

Guwahati: In a noteworthy outcome of the recently declared Assam state board class 12 examinations, girls have once again demonstrated their academic prowess by surpassing boys in all streams.

This achievement comes even as the overall pass percentage witnessed a decline across the Arts, Science, and Commerce streams compared to the previous academic year.

The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) announced the results on Wednesday for the examinations conducted during February and March. This year’s results hold particular significance as it marks the first Higher Secondary (HS) examination conducted by the unified ASSEB, following the amalgamation of the previously separate education boards.

Analyzing the stream-wise performance reveals a downward trend in the overall success rate. The Arts stream, with the largest cohort of students, recorded a pass percentage of 81.03%, marking a considerable decrease from last year’s 88.36%. Similarly, the Science stream experienced a drop from 89.88% to 84.88%, and the Commerce stream saw its pass percentage fall from 87.66% in 2024 to 82.18% this year.

Despite this general decline, the consistent outperformance of girls across all disciplines remains a key highlight. In the Arts stream, 82.95% of girls successfully cleared the examination, compared to 78.4% of boys. The Science stream saw a pass percentage of 85.54% among girls and 84.39% among boys. In Commerce, the figures stood at 82.40% for girls and 82.08% for boys.

At the district level, West Karbi Anglong achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate in the Science stream, while South Salmara mirrored this feat in the Commerce stream. Baksa district emerged as the top performer in the Arts stream, with an impressive 94.21% of its students successfully passing the examination. The vocational stream recorded a pass percentage of 68.55%.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed his congratulations to the successful students via a post on X. He lauded their dedication and hard work, wishing them well for their future endeavors. In a message of encouragement, he also urged students who did not pass to maintain hope and emphasized the possibility of restarting and achieving their goals.
