Global Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Women Community of Manipur to Boycott Lok Sabha Elections

Northeast Desk, 27th March: Representatives of the Global Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Women community in Manipur have taken a decisive stance to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held from April 19. This significant decision comes after the Young Kuki, representing Kuki youths along with Kuki volunteers, and the Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) Presidential Council reached a consensus to abstain from participating in the electoral process.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commission of India, the Global Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Women community expressed their deep-seated concerns and disillusionment with the current political landscape. Citing unaddressed grievances and injustices stemming from the violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, the community emphasized their lack of trust in both national and state administrations.

The decision to boycott the elections underscores the community’s firm commitment to exercising their constitutional and legal rights in protest against perceived injustices and systemic failures. While not made lightly, this choice reflects the culmination of enduring grievances and a loss of faith in the ability of authorities to address their concerns.

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the absence of participation from the Global Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Women community serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by marginalized groups in accessing meaningful representation and addressing longstanding grievances within the political framework.
