Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Friday initiated an eviction drive against unlawfully built establishments in the city’s Ulubari area.
The eviction drive reportedly took place close to the Prag Tower building beneath the Ulubari flyover.
The several mobile restaurants that had been set up below the flyover were unlawful, according to site officials. During the drive several of these roadside stalls were removed.
Officials said that the GMC is undertaking daily eviction efforts to remove unlawfully erected booths and make the spaces they occupy available to the public.
Reports further indicated that claims of illegal tax collection and business harassment against the GMC have surfaced.
